MONO
‘New York Soundtracks’
In
the Fall of 2002 Aki Onda met
up with Mono at Tonic in New
York City. As the two parties
got to know each other they
began talking about making a
remix album together by musicians
who lived and worked in New
York. Mono had seen the city
just after September 11th and
wanted to create something that
captured the current environment
in which creative energy never
dies.
Aki
Onda, an electronic improviser,
had also produced a number of
artists in the past. All agreed
this would be a perfect opportunity
to work together on this new
idea. Taka of Mono had one particular
request, however. He wanted
to ask Loren Connors, a guitarist
he’d admired for quite
some time, to be part of this
project. His request was eventually
honored.
‘New
York Soundtracks’ is a
unique project that features
some of the most prominent and
unique figures in the NY avant/experimental
music scene. All of whom...with
their own vision...beautifully
reconstruct a foundation laid
by Mono.
